My name is Francesco Palombino. I am a guitarist, a harmonica player, and a dedicated curator of vintage instruments and amplification. My journey into the world of vintage gear began in the 1990s when, as a teenager, I acquired my dream guitar—a 1979 Fender Stratocaster—followed by a 1961 Binson amplifier, which I used to play Chicago Blues on the harmonica.

From Obsession to Expertise: The Harp Elite Legacy

The early 2000s marked a turning point. Through the discovery of eBay, I began a relentless search for the ultimate harmonica tone, acquiring and testing over 100 vintage American amplifiers in just a few years. This obsession turned into expertise; I became a reference point for the Italian harmonica community on forums like Doctorharp.

In 2007, I founded Harp Elite, an online store dedicated exclusively to the harmonica. Following the closure of the famous German site harponline.de, Harp Elite grew to become the most popular specialized shop in Europe. I sold the business in 2019 to pursue new entrepreneurial ventures, but my soul remained rooted in music.

A 360-Degree Vision of the Instrument

Returning to the guitar, I expanded my horizons across every genre—from the precision of 1970s and 80s Japanese replicas (Stratocaster and Les Paul copies) and the high-output world of Charvel/Jackson metal guitars, to the elegance of Classical guitars and Jazz Archtops.

To truly know an instrument, you must understand its soul and its mechanics. This led me to study luthiery and setup. While I am not a professional luthier, I believe that being able to fine-tune, set up, and perform minor repairs is essential to ensuring that every instrument in my care performs at its absolute best.

The Discovery of Django and the Gypsy Jazz Spirit

In 2025, a new passion was ignited: Gypsy Jazz. Beyond the infectious rhythm of “La Pompe” and the virtuosic melodies, I was profoundly moved by the story of Django Reinhardt.

At the age of 18, Django lost the use of two fingers on his left hand. Instead of surrendering, he transformed this tragedy into a revolutionary technique that birthed a new genre. An illiterate genius with no formal musical theory, he mastered the complexities of Jazz by ear alone. Django’s story is a universal reminder to never give up on one’s passion, regardless of the obstacles.

The Mission of Gypsy Jazz Vintage

While searching for my first Gypsy Jazz guitar, I identified a significant gap in the market. Beginners are often limited to low-quality Asian imports, while professional luthier instruments (costing €2,000–€3,000) lack the historical charm of the originals.

In France, a treasure trove of authentic vintage guitars and Stimer accessories exists, yet they remain largely inaccessible to the rest of the world due to logistical and linguistic barriers. Gypsy Jazz Vintage was created to bridge this gap.

What We Do

Our goal is to tell the story of the Selmer/Maccaferri design—not just the elusive originals, but the masterpieces created by legendary luthiers like Di Mauro, Castelluccia, Favino, Busato, and many others.

Through this site, I make these legendary instruments accessible to enthusiasts worldwide. My work goes beyond sales; I provide:
